From SDR to AE: Eimhin Charlton’s Journey of Growth at LearnUpon
When Eimhin Charlton joined LearnUpon, he was drawn in by the prospect of working for a fast-growing Irish tech company. But it wasn’t just the opportunity that sold him; it was the people. “Once I spoke to some of the team, I realized how strong the culture really was,” Eimhin shares. “The company motto—work, learn, and have fun—wasn’t just a tagline. It genuinely came through in how people showed up every day.”
From SDR to AE: Learning Every Step of the Way
Eimhin started his journey at LearnUpon as a Sales Development Representative (SDR). Thanks to a combination of hard work and strong mentorship from his manager, Terri Kelly McDermott, he was promoted to Senior SDR within a year. This team lead-style role gave him a chance to develop leadership skills and laid the foundation for what came next.
That next step was the Business Development Representative (BDR) role, where Eimhin began focusing more on outbound lead generation and working closely with the Account Executive (AE) team. “Being exposed to how our AEs work day-to-day really helped me understand the bigger picture,” he explains. The skills and knowledge he picked up made the jump to his current role as an AE feel like a natural evolution.
Finding His Own Style in Sales
Like many people new to sales, Eimhin initially turned to online advice and social media for guidance. But he quickly discovered that there’s no one-size-fits-all playbook. “You can’t just copy what you see online and expect it to work,” he says. “It wasn’t until I really understood our industry and the types of people I was speaking to that I started to find success.”
This mindset—curious, customer-focused, and adaptable—is one of the reasons Eimhin has thrived in his role.
Success Beyond the Numbers
While quota and revenue are key markers of success in sales, Eimhin sees the bigger picture. “It’s also about the impact I’m having on my team and the company’s growth as a whole,” he says. “And of course, making sure I’m delivering the best possible experience to our customers.”
A Culture of Support and Openness
One of the things that’s stood out most to Eimhin since joining LearnUpon is the culture of openness. “Even as an entry-level SDR, there was never a time when someone more senior wouldn’t make time for a coffee or a quick call to share advice,” he reflects. “That kind of support makes a huge difference.”
LearnUpon’s culture balances ambition with community. “We work hard, but we celebrate our wins and have fun doing it,” Eimhin says.
Putting People First
That people-first approach extends to work-life balance, too. Eimhin appreciates the flexibility and understanding he’s experienced during high-pressure moments. “My manager is always supportive if I need to switch off and recharge. Plus, the generous annual leave and the opportunity to attend great events help us disconnect and reset.”
Final Thoughts
Eimhin Charlton’s story is a great example of what’s possible at LearnUpon: a place where your career can grow alongside a team that genuinely cares about your development, your wellbeing, and your success.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take the next step, LearnUpon’s culture of learning, collaboration, and fun might be exactly what you’re looking for.
