Supporting Customers and Shaping Success: Meet Senior Implementation Consultant Sandra Barthel
For Sandra Barthel, every day at LearnUpon is about connection—whether it’s guiding customers through their first steps on our platform, teaming up with colleagues to solve complex challenges, or simply taking time for a proper lunch break to recharge.
As a Senior Implementation Consultant, Sandra plays a key role in helping customers launch their training portals with confidence, all while building strong partnerships along the way.
In this interview, Sandra shares what a typical day looks like in her role, how she’s grown her career within LearnUpon, and why collaboration is at the heart of everything she does.
What does a typical day look like for you as a Senior Implementation Consultant?
No two days are exactly the same, but most include a mix of customer meetings via Zoom, where I’m training and advising customers as they work towards launching their training portals.
I also join internal team meetings, handle emails, and collaborate via Slack—often with our Support team—to address technical questions or unique use cases from customers.
One thing I’m intentional about is taking a proper lunch break every day. It’s my reset time, and having the flexibility to set my own schedule is something I really value in this role. Fridays usually mean fewer calls, which gives me more focus time to plan ahead.
Can you walk us through your career path, from Implementation Consultant to Senior Implementation Consultant?
At LearnUpon, career progression is clearly outlined, which has been a big motivator for me. I’ve always had visibility into the competencies required to move to the next level, and I worked closely with my manager during our 1:1s to identify areas of growth.
For me, it’s about showing up and doing my best work every day, while leaning on the amazing support and guidance from my management team. Their feedback and encouragement played a huge part in my development and helped me take that next step into the senior role.
How do you partner with other teams across the company?
Being remote, Slack and Zoom are my go-to tools for collaboration. But it’s not just about communication; it’s about teamwork. Our customers are supported by multiple teams, and I’ve seen countless examples of how different departments come together to help a customer overcome a challenge.
From Sales and Support to Product and Engineering, the level of cross-team support makes a real difference, and it’s something I love about LearnUpon’s culture.
Were there any challenges or learning curves that helped shape you professionally?
Honestly, the moments where things don’t go perfectly often teach you the most. When a problem comes up and you’re in a position to find a solution, you learn quickly (and you don’t forget it!).
I’ve had so many situations where other teams have stepped in to help, sharing their expertise so we can solve issues faster. Those moments stick with you and make you better at what you do.
What’s one project or moment in your experience here so far that really stands out as a highlight?
It’s hard to pick just one project, but for me, the highlights are the ‘people’ moments. It’s those times when other teams have gone out of their way to show up for me and our customers. The willingness to help, the kindness, and the shared commitment to customer success—those are the moments that make me feel proud to work at LearnUpon.
